DPCC Fundraiser!

Welcome!  I’m thrilled for you to join me in a fundraiser for DPCC.  Here’s how it works: you place a Barefoot Books order (details below), and DPCC will receive 20% of the total sales!  It’s a gift that gives twice, as we not only support a school our kids love, but also gift the little ones in our lives with books that celebrate the beauty of our world.  Information on ordering is at the bottom of the page, and the deadline is April 30, 2016.

About Barefoot Books

Barefoot Books is an independent publisher of high quality children’s books that celebrate diversity, global learning, and care for the earth. I have curated collections of some of my favorite books by theme and age below.  You can also browse the website to view our full collection and place your order by clicking here.

“It is time for parents to start teaching young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” – Maya Angelou

Celebrating Diversity: Ages 0-3

1 Board Books

“Isn’t it amazing that we are all made in God’s image, and yet there is so much diversity among His people?” – Desmond Tutu

These sing-along books feature colorful illustrations of children from around the world.  They are a HUGE hit with children ages 1-6 (trust me, I’ve tested them almost every day!).  Each one comes with a CD with an audio soundtrack and video animation.

3 Sing Alongs

Exploring the World: Ages 3-10

“What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you.  Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave.  They show us what community and friendship mean, they show us how to live.” – Anne Lamott

6 Asia

7 Middle East

8 Central America

Cultivating Cross-Cultural Literacy

“All the reading she had done had given her a view of life they had never seen.” – Roald Dahl, from Matilda

These collections of stories from around the globe make wonderful read-aloud books, and provoke questions of how different cultures perceive and contribute to the world in their own brilliant, unique ways. I’ve pictured a few here, but Barefoot also has anthologies of global stories on themes including animals, princesses, knights, fairy tales, African tales, Irish tales, ballet stories, and more!

9 Anthologies

“Diverse kids’ literature gives children of color a chance to see themselves as heroes, which is vital. But smart, thoughtful books with non-white protagonists can also give white children a chance to see black people and people of color as something other than anxiety-producing others or stereotypes.” – Noah Berlatsky
