Children Who Look Like Me

China Books PicIt was a privilege to send off this package of books this morning (minus the part in which my toddlers spent the entire ten minutes attempting to escape the glass walls of the post office)!

What a gift these will be for a family who recently adopted their son from China and are, undoubtedly, eager to glean glimpses of his birthplace.  My hope too is that this little boy will, in the midst of so much that is unfamiliar, know and cherish his cultural heritage.

What a gift to see “children who look like me” in the books children read.

Here are several lovely picture books set in China:

Motherbridge of Love (a beautiful poem celebrating a child’s birth mother and adoptive mother)

We’re Riding on a Caravan: An Adventure on the Silk Road

The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac

(And remember that right now all books are Buy 3 Get 1 Free when you use the code NEWYEAR)
